The standards are high for teachers in our district, so we are constantly involved in the pursuit of excellence in our educational programs. Adhering to the same high standards as regular teachers, our substitute teachers are considered an important part of the educational program. Substitute teachers contribute much to the children of this community.

Our office is continuously searching for high quality substitute teachers to maintain an average of 1,000 individuals that are approved to substitute teach with MPS. Approximately 350-550 substitute teachers work each school day to support over 80 campuses and 3600 classrooms.

We employ an average of 303 substitutes a day, with a high of approximately 450 on a very busy day. (We employ approximately 3,600 contract teachers.) An automated calling system, SmartFindExpress (SFE) is used to request substitutes and to fill absences.
