Biography

Helen graduated from Southeastern Oklahoma State University with a Bachelor of Science in Education degree.  She began teaching 7th and 8th grade science at Choctaw Oklahoma, a suburb of Oklahoma City, where she remained for two years.

In 1985 Helen and her husband moved to Mesa, Arizona where she started teaching Biology at Mountain View High School.  In 1989 she transferred to Red Mountain High School where she served the school in various capacities.  She taught Biology, Life Science, College Prep Biology, Student Government, and was the Science Department Chairperson.  In 1992 she completed a Master's Degree in Educational Counseling at Arizona State University and soon thereafter completed the Principal Certification Program through Northern Arizona University.  In her final year at Red Mountain, Helen accepted the Instructional Specialist position and served as the Team Leader.

In 1999 Helen transferred to Skyline High School and served as the Team Leader and Director Of Activities before accepting the Assistant Principal position at Mesa High School.

Helen is presently serving her 8th year as Principal of Westwood High School.  During her principal-ship at Westwood she has promoted many educational programs including credit recovery,  AVID, SHIELD, and the IB diploma program.  She recognizes Westwood's diverse cultures and believes that all students should have access to a quality education in a safe, friendly environment that promotes personal growth.
