 Warrior Athletic Program Mission Statement:

The Westwood High School Interscholastic program is committed to promote, direct and conduct interscholastic athletics in such a manner as to further the aims of general education.  It will teach advanced knowledge of skill and sport, promote friendly relationships with other schools, encourage participation by students and teach good sportsmanship and fair play.  Furthermore, interscholastic athletics will develop desirable traits in the individual, enhance fulfillment of competitive competition, and help prepare young adults for a challenging career well beyond Westwood High School.

 Westwood Athletic Philosophy:

Westwood Athletics is an integral part of the total educational structure.  Every effort is made to provide athletic opportunities and experiences for as many students as possible.  Competitive athletic teams are selected on the basis of the needs, interests and basic abilities of the students that make up the program.  Mesa schools believes that the coach must assume the leadership role.  In turn, coaches strive to develop leaders, foster cooperation, teach skills, install pride in performance and exhibit outstanding sportsmanship traits as outlined in the “Pursuing Victory with Honor” character building program.  Westwood coaches will work diligently to instill a desire to win, along with an emphasis on giving one’s best effort no matter the outcome of the contest.
