How is Montessori Education Different?

The mulit-age Montessori classroom emphasizes a balance between freedom and responsibility. A process toward  independence and self-discipline is fostered for each child. At the core of Montessori education is: respect for self,
each other, and the learning  environment.

• Students usually spend three years in a multi-grade classroom with the same teacher. This provides for long term-relationships between the teacher, student, and family.
• The Montessori classroom also provides an opportunity for growing responsibility for each student.
• In a prepared environment each student moves in sequence from simple to complex and from concrete to abstract.
• Students make choices in directing their own work.
• Montessori materials are used in classrooms for math, language, science, social studies, and sensorial learning.

• The classroom environment is prepared for learning. Educational materials are sequenced, so that the student may understand their educational progress.
