Pre-Algebra
Polıcıes and Procedures

teacher: Suzanne Fullerton

Welcome to Pre-Algebra. I am looking forward to an exciting year of

challenging math opportunities to prepare you for higher level math. This class will

include a light review of arithmetic skills with a heavy emphasis on Algebra

preparation including integer operations, solving equations, graphing, geometry

and mathematical writing.

Supplies:

Each student will need a notebook or section within his/her notebook for math.

Since we will be adding many papers each quarter, I encourage students to use a

notebook with rings which open and close rather than a pocket or spiral style. An

assignment calendar and all homework , tests and quizzes will be kept in this

notebook for an entire quarter. Notebooks will be graded at least once each quarter

as a test grade. Students will be expected to bring this notebook to class each day.

Paper and pencil will be needed daily.

Homework:

Students will be assigned homework daily except before weekends and holidays.

Students will be given assignments at the beginning of each week and will keep

track of them using as assignment calendar, which will be kept in their notebooks.

Homework will appear on my portion of the Stapley web site by Monday afternoon

each week. However, the written assignment calendar in the notebook is required.

Grading:

Students will be graded on both homework and evaluations exercises. Points will be kept during each quarter and grades will be based on the percent of total points earned.  Homework will generally be worth 10 points, quizzes 20-30 points and tests at least 100 points each.

Semester grades will be determined by an average of the grade for both quarters.

Grades will appear on the parent portal starting approximately September 1.  I will let students know as soon as I have the exact date. Students should check their grades frequently and discus any

questions with me. I will not be sending home grades on a regular basis. If you do

not have internet access, please let me know so I can send you a paper copy of your

grade near each progress and quarter grade report.

Make-Up Work:

Any student who is absent will be given until the Friday of the week following the

absence to turn in the work. Always the sooner work is completed the better.

Students may turn in up to three late homework assignments (Absences do not

count here.) during each quarter. These need to be turned in by the Friday of the

week following the assignment. This allows students additional time to work on a

topic which they find to be difficult. Any additional late assignments will not be

accepted. Students will be notified when they have used their three late

assignments.

Retakes:

Most tests and quizzes will be able to be retaken if a student is not satisfied with

his/her score. Homework can also be redone to improve the grade. This needs to be

done by the Friday of the week following the assignment. I will be available for

additional help in the mornings between 8:20 and 8:50 and after school. A

calendar is posted at the beginning of the week listing the days I will be available

for help. Students do need to obtain a pass from me allowing them to enter the

building early.

Discipline:

All students will be expected to conduct themselves in such a way to promote a

positive learning environment. Interruptions causing time to be wasted or which

prevent other students from learning will not be tolerated. Students will be

respectful to each other and the teacher. Every student is expected to be in his/her

seat and ready to begin when the bell rings. No gum or candy is allowed at Stapley

Junior High. Failure to follow these rules may result in any of the following: a

warning, a discussion with the student, a written assignment designed to define and

eliminate the problem, a detention, contact with parents, or action through the

office.

Parent Contact:

I will be glad to discuss each student’s progress with his/her parents at any time. It

is most easy to reach me at school between 8:15 and 8:45 at 472-2751. If you call

and I am not available, please leave a message and I will return your call as soon as

possible. You can also reach me by e-mail at swfuller@mpsaz.org.
