Students
are required to write one formal concert report each quarter, which is
worth 15% of their grade. This process helps students develop critical listening skills, and also supports the writing
process at Stapley. Students may attend any of the following
types of live performances:
- School concerts or assemblies - any school; vocal or instrumental
- Local ensembles - Mesa, Tempe, Phoenix Symphonies, ASU, MCC, etc.
- Church music functions
- Musicals
- Recitals
There
may be other options, so if you are planning on attending a performance
that isn't listed, please ask - it may be an acceptable performance.

The following information needs to be included in the report:
- Your name and the date
- Name of group(s), date, time, and location of performance
- List
each piece performed and state whether or not you enjoyed it, and why.
Be certain to give reasons for your preference - don't just say that
you liked it or didn't and stop there.
- Grammar, punctuation, and spelling must be accurate.
- Use your 'voice' when writing - show your personality and make it interesting
Reports must be in the following format:
- no title
- at least one (1) full page
- one inch margins
- neatly hand-written (single spaced) or typed (double spaced)
- in BLUE or BLACK ink only
- size 12 font in Times or Arial
- any report done in pencil or any color
other than black or blue ink will lose 25 points.
