Beginning Drama

Course Outline
Beginning Drama is designed for students who have had little or no training in acting. For the shy, it is a great opportunity to build confidence and feel more comfortable in front of an audience, whether it is in a theater, a classroom, or simplyin front of a group of peers at a social event. For the outgoing, it is an opportunity to express creativity and channel it in productive ways. In the theater there is a place and need for everyone. I look forward to helping you find yours!

How are grades determined?
All assignments and performances are given point values. By demonstrating specific skills and knowledge, students are awarded points throughout the grading period. At the end of each grading period, the points are simply added together and the grade is determined by a percentage of the total points possible. Below is a percentage breakdown as well as a list illustrating how much each type of assignment effects the whole grade.
| Performances | 50% | These are primarily in-class demonstrations of specific skills performed in front of the other drama students. |
| Daily Participation and Rehearsals | 40% | This includes use of class time, some paperwork, attendance, and tardies. Students receive 5 points per day for actively participating in exercises and lessons. They are allowed two tardies. After the second tardy, the student will lose two points from their Daily Participation grade. Promptness is an important aspect of theater. |
| Quizzes/Assignments | 10% | There are just a few assessments early in the course regarding basic terms and standards, and a few brief writing assignments. |

As long as students attend regularly, actively participate, and give an honest effort in activities and performances, they will be very successful in this class. If there is ever a problem or question concerning grades, please call or email me and I will be happy to discuss it with you. I don't want grades to get in the way of embracing a wonderful and positive experience in drama!
