Course Outline
What will we be learning in class?

Advanced Drama is a performance oriented course designed for students who have taken a beginning class and who are comfortable performing in front of an audience.  Students will fine-tune their skills in projection, diction, characterization and movement through monologues, scenes, improvisation and plays.

In the fall the drama program participates in the annual Scare Fair by producing a Haunted House.  This is our yearly fundraiser, and all Advanced drama students are expected to participate.  It is a wonderful way to incorporate acting and stage craft to raise money for our productions. It has become a favorite annual event where former students return to participate as well. This years Scare Fair in on Friday, Oct. 30th  in the evening.  More details will be sent home in the near future. Please consider volunteering to help.

Each semester the class  produces a main stage production for the school and community.  The majority of rehearsals take place during class time; however, some after school and weekend rehearsals will be necessary and students are expected to attend. This year's fall play has not been selected yet.  It is scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 17 and Thursday, Nov. 18th in the evenings at 7:00.  Our Lock-In rehearsal is on Friday, November 6th from 4:00 - 10:00 p.m.    Dress rehearsals are on Thursday, Nov. 12, and Friday, Nov. 13 immediately after school.  They will perform the all-school assemblies on Monday, Nov. 16th during school hours.   Please let Mrs. Martinez know immediately if there is a conflict with any of these dates.   I will be sending home a letter later in the quarter with details and opportunities for parent help!  I will need it. :)

How are grades determined?

The total points of each grading period will come from various class assignments.  These assignments will be mainly performances and daily participation in-class activities, as well as a few quizzes on terms, memorization etc.  At the end of each grading period, the points are added together, and the grade is determined by a percentage that reflects a particular grade.  Below is a breakdown illustrating how much each type of assignment effects the overall grade. Please be aware that excessive tardiness can effect a student's grade.  Daily participation points are deducted 2 points for any day they have an unexcused tardy.

Performances  50%

Daily Participation   40%

Other   10%

 90 - 100%   = A

80 -    89%  = B

70 -    79%  = C

60 -    69%  = D

0   -    59%  = F

I LOVE teaching and directing the drama classes at Stapley, and I am so excited for another wonderful semester with a wonderful bunch of kids.  It is my hope that when they look back on the time they spent at Stapley, they will have fond memories of a time where they made friends while they discovered and fine-tuned their talents and gifts.  Please call with any questions or concerns.  472-2787

Sincerely,

      Becky Martinez
