Welcome back to school!

Your success depends on your own commitment and willingness to participate in class everyday and your full attention throughout class time.   I expect that you will act mature and make responsible choices in this class.

  GUIDELINES FOR SUCCESS:

·         Keep all handouts, notes, bell work, completed assignments, and paper.  Please DO NOT throw any assignments away, you or I may need them for future reference!

·         Assignments done in any color than blue or black will not be accepted.

·         Everyone has the right to concentrate and learn.   When you complete an assignment it does not give you the liberty to socialize.   I expect you to read quietly.

·         Keep a dictionary and thesaurus on hand to improve spelling, vocabulary, and word choice.

·         Revise, reread and read aloud all of your work.

SUPPLIES NEEDED EVERYDAY:

·         A section for English in your binder

·         Spiral 8 ½ X 11 200+ pages

·         Loose leaf notebook paper

·         Pens, pencils, highlighters and grading pens

·         Reading material to fill extra moments.

Please, a donation of Clorox wipes, plug-in air freshener, hand sanitizer or tissues to our class would be greatly appreciated.

GRADING POLICIES:

All assignments are assigned a point value. The number of points for each assignment and test is determined by the length and/ difficulty of the assignment.  At the end of each grading period, the total of the possible points is converted to the following percentage scale:

90 – 100%= A, 80 – 89 % = B, 70 – 79 % = C, 60 – 69 % = D, 59 % - = F

GRADE REPORTING:

I report grades by using MPS Gradeworks.

**Further information will be forthcoming.

CALENDARS:

Each quarter you will receive a calendar, which is a total of 50pts.

Each day will begin with a review of the calendar and objective for the day.  All students are required to fill out the homework and due dates for the calendar.

·          Due at the end of the quarter

·          No late passes accepted

·          You may find the agenda on www2.mpsaz.org/stapley

***Our agenda is subject to change.

EXTRA CREDIT:

Extra Credit work will only be offered if it has educational value to the entire class.   If you complete every assignment on time you will not fail.

LATE WORK:

Late work is any work that is not completed by the beginning of class on the day it is due. Any assignment that is late will be worth zero points. You will receive two late work coupons each quarter, allowing you to turn in the assignment for full credit the following day.  After the grace period, the work will be accepted for partial credit for TWO WEEKS only.   Please use it for an extreme circumstance when an extracurricular activity or family commitment prevents you from getting an assignment done.

ABSENT WORK:

Absent work due to an excused absence from school will be accepted for full credit for five days after you return. After that the assignments will be marked AB and worth zero points. You are responsible for checking the assignment calendar and getting any handouts from the makeup work area.  If you need an extended amount of time please make arrangements with the teacher by having your parents call me.
