Algebra/Geometry Syllabus
Dear Parents and students,
Welcome to Stapley Junior High. My goal this year is to prepare each student for the future. I want them to gain the skills required for success in what ever career they pursue. Math is used in every aspect of life, and I will show students how it can be applied to their lives outside of the classroom. I feel math is a very important subject to master, but it is also important to become a mature responsible adult. I will model appropriate respectful behavior for the students at all times, and expect the same in return. If you have any questions or concerns during the year please don’t hesitate to contact me.

Class Materials: Students are encouraged to keep a subject specific notebook. Three ring binders are a popular choice for holding; all notes, assignments, returned work, classroom materials, and assignment calendars. Students are required to bring standard lined notebook paper and a pencil everyday.
Attendance: Participation and consistent attendance are the two best ways to ensure student success. Arizona State law requires students to be in school 90% of each semester. This means that after 9 absences in one semester: credit may be withheld.
Tardy Policy
1st warning 3rd 30min detention w/ parent contact
2nd 15min detention 4th administrative referral
Homework: Assignments are generally given 4 days a week. Unless otherwise specified, assignments will be due the following day. Homework will be graded randomly through the use of a “homework quiz” in which students will be asked to highlight selected problems from their work. Points will be assigned based on the following three areas; original problem copied, all necessary work, and the correct answer. Students will have an opportunity to check their work before school each day, during provided class time, or after school by appointment. NO LATE WORK WILL BE ACCEPTED!
Courtesy Points: Each quarter every student will receive 6 courtesy points. These may be used to make-up/redo an assignment or as a hall pass. To make-up/redo any assignment worth 0-25 points it takes 1 cp, 26-50 points = 2cp’s, 51-75 = 3cp’s, and 76+ = 4cp’s. If a student chooses to use a cp on an assignment they will have two weeks for the assignments due date to turn it in. Any unused cp’s may be turned in at the end of the quarter for extra credit.
Make-Up Work: For every day a student is gone with an excused absence they will have an equal number of days to complete any missed assignments. Students do not need to use courtesy points to make up absent work within this time frame. If they require additional time they may use cp’s for an additional two weeks. NO make-up work from an unexcused absence will be accepted. NO LATE WORK WILL BE ACCEPTED! It is the student’s responsibility to find out what was missed before or after class. All test and quizzes must be made up before or after school by appointment. Again it is the student’s responsibility to schedule a make-up test or quiz within the given time frame.
