Biography                                      

Janice Colburn, in her 39^th year of teaching, began her teaching career in Bedford Township, Michigan, from 1971 to 1981, where she taught middle school, junior high, and eventually high school.  A member of PI Kappa Lambda, she came to Mesa, Arizona in 1981 where she taught junior high first at Poston Junior High, and then at Stapley Junior High when it opened in 1993.  She currently directs three choruses at Stapley Junior High in the morning, Kindergarten at Field Elementary, and two choruses at Smith Junior High in the afternoon.  Mrs. Colburn holds two degrees (cum laude) from The Ohio State University in keyboard performance and music education, and also did graduate studies at the University of Michigan. Her choruses have performed at the AMEA State Music Conference several times and at the ACDA Western Division Convention.  Her students frequently participate in the National Junior High Honor Choirs.  In her spare time, Mrs. Colburn loves to travel with her husband and go birding.
