Biography
Hi!
My name is Emily McIntyre - art teacher. This is my second year teaching art for Mesa Public Schools. Last year I taught at the elementary level and then was moved up to Junior High. I teach 1st through 3rd periods at Brimhall Junior High. Those classes incude - General Art, Introduction to Art, and Sculpture/Ceramics. In the afternoon I travel to Stapely Junior High were I teach the 5th and 6th period Introduction to Art classes.
I am originally from a south suburb of Chicago (Park Forest) and graduated with a BA in art education from Southern Illinois University. I then moved to St. Louis for about a year, then on to Fort Wayne, Indiana were I spent 22 years. Within those years I had 2 kids - a boy and then 2 1/2 years later a little girl arrived. Those kids are now 19 and 22. I worked part-time as an activities director for a senior citizen center, then started teaching adult fitness classes at the local YWCA, from there I became the Youth Fitness Director for a few years. It finally became time to actually use my degree and teach art classes. I started part-time at the elementary level about 9 years ago and then became full time 3 years later.
I must say that I do have my dream job. There is nothing more rewarding then teaching students that they can do art. If maybe they don't feel comfortable doing one media, then they are sure to find another that will fit them best. I love to tell my students that there is no wrong answer in art. The only wrong answer is if I tell them to draw a house - and they draw me a car.
I am looking forward to this school year.
