Dear Parents and Guardians,

The district's Governing Board called for a continuation of the maintenance and operations override. The measure was first approved by voters in 1995 and then renewed in 2000 and 2005.  Mesa Public Schools voters will cast a ballot on Nov. 3 to decide whether to keep the district override funding in place.   Voters within the Mesa Public Schools district, including those who live in Chandler, will go to the polls on Nov. 3. Early ballots will be mailed on Oct. 8.

The renewal of this override by voters would continue funding for programs currently serving district students, including:

  • Class size – continue to fund additional teaching positions that reduce class size.
  • Security – continue to fund school security staff.
  • Instructional supplies – continue to provide an additional supply budget allocation to each school.
  • Employee compensation – provide a competitive compensation package for employees.
  • Academic programs – provide additional or alternative academic programs.
  • Technology training – continue staff training in the use of educational technology.
  • Teacher training – continue one additional day of training for teachers.
  • Transportation – continue student transportation not funded under the state funding formula.

You are invited to attend the PTO’s October 6th meeting, beginning at 6:30 pm in the Sirrine’s library, in which West Area Superintendent Bruce Cox will be sharing a district presentation regarding factual information pertaining to the override election.  I hope to see you there.

Very sincerely,

Gregory S. Reid, Ed.D.
