Rules/Policies

Dear Parents/Guardians and Students,

Welcome to (Drama/English). I would like to take this opportunity to review my classroom expectations so that this will be a rewarding school year for all of us as you begin your high school career. By reading and signing these policies, you are acknowledging your awareness and acceptance to abide by these policies in this classroom at all times and that you have read and understand the course guidelines.

Expectations

  • VI. Behavior Expectations:

    1. Be ready and able to work each day.

    2. Respect yourself and others.

    3. Take responsibility.

    4. Follow RMHS policies.

    VII. Policies and Procedures:

    1. Cell phones must be turned OFF in class, not on silent or vibrate.

    2. The teacher, not the bell, dismisses the class.

    3. Raise your hand and wait for permission to speak.

Theatre Etiquette

  1.  Since theatre is a type of celebration with most people securing advance tickets and making special plans to attend, you should dress up for this festive occasion. (In other words wear proper clothing to class that is within school dress code and in no way inhibits you.)
  2.  Arrive early to be seated and to read your printed program. After the curtain is up most theatres will not seat people until a scene break, so late comers miss part of the show. (Be on time and prepared for class.)
  3.  When you enter a row to get to your seat, face the people already seated. Do not turn your back to them as you cross to your seat. (Treat others with respect.)
  4.  Turn off cell phones, pagers, and the beeper on your watch. An unexpected beep, alarm, or ring not only disturbs those around you but really annoys the actors (and Teacher) as well.
  5.  Remove hats and caps so that those seated behind you can see. (Never wear a hat on stage unless it is a required costume. The audience needs to see your face.)
  6.  Don’t put your feet on the seat or seatback in front of you, whether or not someone is sitting there.
  7. Avoid talking during the performance (lecture). It is discourteous to talk or whisper. Save your comments until intermission.
  8.  Do not take food or drink into the theatre. (This includes candy and gum.)
  9. Respond to the play. Give it a chance to work its magic.
  10.  Don’t leave during the play except for an emergency.
  11.  At the end, don’t leave until the house lights are turned on. It is bad manners to slip out early. (For classroom purposes don’t leave class during a performance even if the bell rings, you have plenty of time to get to your next class. Also please don’t start packing up until the bell rings.)
  12.  To show that you enjoyed the performance, applaud at the end during the curtain call.
  13.  Do not give a standing ovation for every play. Reserve such a tribute for the truly outstanding performance.
  14.  Do not send flowers or gifts to the cast on stage. Instead, have such items delivered back stage. (Ms. Griffin will hold all items delivered by the Caddy Shack until the end of a performance or lecture.)
  15.  If you sincerely enjoyed the performance, write a congratulatory note to the director and group. You will make their day.

All of these rules support one all-encompassing principle: Respect
