Welcome to the Academic Decathlon Page!
The Red Mountain High School Academic Decathlon coaches are Mr. Brad Kaufman and Ms. Rachel Christensen.
The Academic Decathlon® is a team competition wherein students match their intellects with students from other schools. Students are tested in categories that include art, economics, essay, language and literature, mathematics, music, science, social science, and speech.
Each high school enters a team of nine students: three "A" or Honor students, three "B" or Scholastic students, and three "C" or Varsity students. Like the decathlon athletic contest, the Academic Decathlon does not permit participants to specialize but encourages academic versatility by requiring students to prepare for all events. The Academic Decathlon stresses educational opportunity and academic excellence.
Gold, Silver and Bronze medals are awarded for individual events and total scores. Winning teams advance through the local, regional and state levels of competition. The state champion competes in the finals at the national level.
The curricular theme for 2009–2010 is the French Revolution.
