Welcome to Rhodes Jr. High World Studies Academy.

Our unique school model challenges students to meet state standards in academic areas and provides rich opportunities for students to apply the learning in real life settings.  Our teachers are continually engaged in professional development to ensure they have the skill sets to provide our students the meaningful, relevant, and engaging learning that we believe sets our school apart.  We are committed to ensuring that our students have the opportunities to learn a second language, expand their critical thinking skills, and develop a curiousosity about the world around them.  The intellectual curiosity this generates will enable our students to go forward with the belief that they can make a difference in the world.

One of the true challenges of working with students at this stage of their life is finding ways to motivate them to reach their potential.  When junior high students are allowed to develop an interest in an issue, they demonstrate a unique determination and tenacity to complete the assignment. Each of our students will be required to select a social, environmental, local or global issue in which they have a strong interest, and then develop a year end project based on that issue.  Students will be required to state the issue/problem, research possible solutions, and develop a plan of action.  Along the way, our students will demonstrate mastery of state standards and discover how they can affect changes that benefit the world-at-large.

We continue to offer a rich and vibrant elective schedule that includes music, art, drama, technology, and family and consumer science classes.  We have over twenty clubs and after school programs for students.  We have a rich performing arts program that offers students the opportunity to perform in outstanding musical and performing groups.  We have multiple academic teams that participate in district and state competitions throughout the year.  Our 9th grade sports teams have a long standing tradition of excellence and our 7th and 8th grade students have the opportunity to compete in the City of Mesa Intramural Program.

As a World Studies Academy, we continuously reach out for ways to prepare our students to live and work in the 21st century.  This requires that we have support from parents, community, businesses, feeder schools and higher educational institutions in the area.  We are striving to develop partnerships that can help us maximize achievement for our students through human resources, financial support, and increased opportunities for our students to participate in academic arenas outside of our own school.  We encourage our families to reach out and support us in this effort to provide the best possible experience for our students.
