Program Awards
2008 - B.T. Washington Elementary School earns Recognized ASCA Model Program (RAMP) designation. Washington's professional school counselor is Ms. Christa Petersen.
2004 - Arizona School Public Relations Association gives an award of merit to the Guidance Department for the MPS Junior High Youth Summit
2002 - Red Mountain High School's "Planning for Life" program is awarded the Counselor Excellence Award by the Arizona ACT Advisory Council
1999 - Stapley Junior High School receives a Ken B. Hoyt Exemplary Career Guidance Award from the American School Counselors Association (ASCA)
1991 - The Mesa Public Schools Guidance and Counseling Program was selected as an exemplary program in Career Guidance by the Office of Vocational and Adult Education.
1990 - The National Organization of Student Assistance Programs and Professionals recognizes Red Mountain High School with a program award.
Individual Awards
Byron McKinnon founded our MPS Guidance Department, our Career Education Program, our Mesa Youth Placement Service, our Taking Charge program, our Child Abuse Reporting System, and Op Shop.
1992 - Dr. David Shuff named the American School Counselors Association (ASCA) Middle/Junior High Counselor of the year
