African American Youth Leadership Conference
The Mission of the African American Youth Leadership Conference is to promote positive adolescent youth development among African- American secondary level students.
This is accomplished through the following:
1.Cultural awareness.
2. Awareness of constructive personal goals.
3. Encouraging successful attendance at
colleges/universities
4. Establishing a sense of community.
The type of student who would benefit from the African American Youth Leadership Conference should have these characteristics:
* Actively participates or demonstrates an interest in social justice issues.
* Exhibits positive cross-cultural interactions with his or her peers.
* Has expressed an interest in pursuing advanced classes or a post secondary degree from an institution of higher education (college/university).
* Is a secondary grade level student (9th-12th grade) and is in good academic standing.
* Please note: Students are invited to attend regardless of their ethnic/racial identification. However, the workshop sessions pertain to issues directly related to African American students.
