Biography
I am an Arizona native. I graduated from Arcadia High School in 2002, where I was a captain of the state champion swim team (Arcadia, Alright!) I was also involved in Drama and Arcadia's literary magazine, Indelible Ink. My work with the literary magazine gave me the opportunity to be published, as well as awarded top honors by the National League of American Pen Women. This may have been the inspiration behind my desire for English.
After high school, I grew restless and wanted to see the world. However, the world seemed slightly too vast and settled for Flagstaff, Arizona. I initially began my studies as a journalism major, and was feeling slightly less than Lois Lane. My heart felt empty, and yearned for the passion that I felt in high school. After two years of being a lumberjack, I decided that I wanted to go back to the public school arena and enrolled in the Mary Lou Fulton College of Education at Arizona State. (Go Devils!)
I studied Secondary Education with an emphasis in English. I loved being back in the classroom and studying English Education. During my studies and observations, I worked part-time with students with learning disabilities. My one-on-one work with students confirmed my love of education. I graduated in 2007 and then earned my M.eD in Curriculum and Instruction in 2009.
During the summer, I worked with Maricopa Community Colleges as an instructor for the high school at Gateway Community College. I worked with "at-risk" students, and reinforced English topics and taught college readiness courses.
This is my first year at Fremont, but my second year in Mesa. Last year I taught sophomores and juniors at Skyline High School. This year, I will be teaching seventh and eighth grade English. I am overjoyed to be apart of the Falcon team and look forward to an amazing year. (Go Falcons!)
