Nutritional Integrity

We encourage healthy eating habits through the meals we provide in our cafeterias. We participate in the National Child Nutrition Program administered by the United States Department of Agriculture.
Lunches are required by Federal guidelines to provide at least one-third of a child’s Recommended Daily Allowance (RDA) for calories, protein, vitamin A, vitamin C, calcium and iron at lunch and one-fourth of the RDA for these nutrients at breakfast. Meals are planned on average to provide 30% or less of calories from fat and 10% or less from saturated fat.
In addition to these requirements, our program promotes the USDA’s Dietary Guidelines for Americans by offering a wide variety of foods to help meet the students’ nutritional needs as well as likes and dislikes. Many of our schools operate salad bars which help reinforce “healthy” food choices.
