Fifth-graders in Mesa Public Schools accepted the Blue Cross Blue Shield of Arizona Walk On! Challenge on Feb. 1. Students are tracking their daily steps in a log through Feb. 28.

The program provides information about daily fitness and healthy lifestyles in the classroom and on the playground. Parents can help by motivating children to continue these positive activities at home.

The students have a Walk On! tool kit that includes a pedometer, instructions on using the pedometer and a program guide with a daily tracking calendar.

Students who complete and return the daily tracking calendar will receive a Walk On! bracelet. Every fifth-grader who successfully completes all 10,000 steps each day (even weekends!) for the month is eligible for a drawing to win one of 40 iPod® shuffles and one of four Wii Fit™ games.

The pedometers, instructional materials and prizes were donated by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Arizona. We appreciate the support they have provided Mesa Public Schools students in developing healthy lifestyle choices.
