Boeing Math:
The Boeing Math Academy is an after-school program funded by the Boeing
Corporation. Each Tuesday and Thursday afternoon for 18 weeks 3rd, 4th,
and 5th grade students focus on improving their Mathematics skills with
the assistance of Edison teachers and Boeing employees. Students receive
both classroom instruction through hands-on activities as well as time in
the computer lab using a variety of programs to reinforce learned skills.
Einstein Eagles:
The Einstein Eagles is an after-school Math program for 6th grade students. This program offeres enrichment in Math for the 6th grade students. They are involved in a variety of hands-on Math activities to help the students gain a deeper understanding of Math concepts.
Math Facts:
Edison employs an incentive program to help the students improve their Math facts abilities. Each class is challenged by the Principal to reach a goal percentage on a timed Math facts test. The classes can achieve a popcorn/movie party or a root beer float party.
As a part of the process for the classes to reach this party an individual component is used. The students can become members of the Edison Math Facts Club by achieving specific levels of achievement on a timed math facts test. The students can then go another step higher by testing to become Soaring Eagles. This is accomplished by scoring an even higher percentage correct on all four Math facts. The students at the Soaring Eagles level earn a t-shirt and school wide recogniton on the announcements. This is not the end, students can pass the test for the next grade level and then recieve recognition at the end of the year awards assembly for having gone one step beyond their grade level.

We have an active Parent-Teacher Organization. They have monthly meetings, check the calendar for the meeting times and places.
Renaissance Reading:
The Accelerated Reader (AR) Program is a computerized reading enrichment program that combines great children's literature with computer skills. As an individualized reading program, it is designed to motivate students to read more and to read good literature. Students of varying abilities can use this program. It is not a competitive program but one that enhances any student's reading ability and enriches all students' reading experiences and comprehension.
Here is how it works. Students select books in their reading range from our Accelerated Reader Selection and read it at their own pace. Once the student has completed the book, he/she is ready to take an AR quiz. Each quiz consists of 5, 10, or 20 multiple choice comprehensive questions about the book.
After taking the quiz, the computer shows the student how many questions he/she answered correctly, shows the correct answers for missed questions, and praises the students' efforts with an on-screen personalized message. Passing the quiz assures the teacher and the parent that the child actually read and understood the book. Each student tests independently-reading the quiz questions himself/herself.
Each book has a point value based on readability and total number of words in the book. Difficulty, length, and comprehension are combined in one important statistic-reading points. The computer keeps track of reading points, books, and average test scores, as well as other data. A student may test on a book only once and should, therefore, have thoroughly read and understood the contents before taking the quiz. Each student is responsible for reading the screen to be sure the quiz, by title and author, is the correct one he/she wishes to take.
Students are recognized for their accomplishments with praise from the teachers and special recognition at the classroom level when individual and/or classroom goals are met.
Student Council:
Our goal is to help the students learn leadership skills that will carry on in life. We are trying to help the students take ownership in and care of their school. This is a student lead, student run organization.

Meetings are held in room 27 from 1:50 p.m. to 2:20 p.m. generally on the third Wednesday of each month. For the dates of the student council meetings check the calendar.
