Entz Elementary is a 2009 Blue Ribbon School
The U.S. Department of Education announced that Entz Elementary was named a 2009 National Blue Ribbon School. It is among four Arizona public schools to receive the recognition.
Students and staff celebrated with a lunchtime cookout in early October, one of many all-school functions planned throughout the year.
Dr. David Finley, principal, said the school staff believes that “all children can learn. Although their rate and degree of learning may differ, students achieve to their maximum potential at our school.”
The U.S. Department of Education categorizes Entz in the top 10 percent of Arizona schools. Schools earn the title for outstanding academic achievement or dramatic improvement in student performance.
Dr. Finley said his teachers consistently maintain achievement levels of more than 80 percent among the students. While the school follows the district’s award-winning curriculum, the teachers use themed units to deliver lessons on reading, writing, math, science and social studies. This method motivates and engages the children and helps them understand how to apply learning to real-life situations.
The school’s caring staff is supported by strong parent participation.
