Tuesday Sep 1 - Dec 11 4:30pm Kronos Pre-Diabetes Course - If you’ve been recently diagnosed with pre-Diabetes or think you may be at risk, developing diabetes is NOT inevitable.  In fact, nearly 60 percent of people with pre-Diabetes can avoid getting type-2 diabetes if they make a few lifestyle changes!  That’s why UnitedHealthcare and the MPS-WIN! Employee Wellness Program are bringing to you a diabetes prevention course for all MPS employees who have pre-Diabetes or think they may be at risk for developing Diabetes.  What:  The course, conducted by Kronos Optimal Health, is a 14-week course specifically designed to help prevent or delay the onset of type 2 diabetes.  All of the classes are led by an experienced Kronos Health Educator trained in pre-Diabetes and diabetes prevention. Throughout the 14-week course, you’ll receive expert, personalized advice and education, plus the friendly support of your group members –giving you the tools and the confidence you need to make changes that last! When and Where:  Classes will begin on Tuesdays, September 1, 2009 and run through December 10, 2009 at 4:30pm-5:30pm as follows:   Tuesdays - 9/1/2009 - 12/8/2009 Student Services Center Wednesdays - 9/2/2009 - 12/16/2009 Administrative Services Center Thursdays - 9/3/2009 - 12/10/2009 Curriculum Services Center   Classes will not be held the week of Thanksgiving, and Veterans Day. How to Register: Space is limited so sign up soon. Employees can register for Kronos Pre-Diabetes by calling 1-888-582-9355, or online by clicking HERE. Cost:  The fee for participating in Kronos Pre-Diabetes course is $270 per person.  HOWEVER, UnitedHealthcare and Mesa Public Schools are offering an exclusive incentive for all MPS employees enrolling in the Kronos Pre-Diabetes class.  If you are covered by UnitedHealthcare, your cost for this course will be only $50! Saturday November 14 7:00am Run from the Sun Walk/Run - Deseret A & L’s Run From the Sun Race Day November 14th   Half Marathon - 7am                    5K - 7:30 am                 Family Fun Run (1.5 miles) - 9:30 am $65 before July 15                   $35 before Nov. 10            $20 adults/$10 kids * before Nov. 10 $75 before Nov. 10                  $40 after Nov. 10               $25 adults/$15 kids * after Nov. 10 $85 after Nov. 10                                       *kids 12 and under Fee includes a long sleeved techincal race shirt, a pre- race pasta meal (for all registered runners), goodie bag, prizes for top 3 winners in each age group, and a finisher's award for all participants.  Runners will also receive a free skin analysis, a raffle ticket, and a training plan.

Sunday January 17 7:00am PF Chang's Rock N Roll Marathon - It is marathon training season again and once again Mesa Public Schools is participating in the Get Fit Challenge Team for the PF Chang's Rock and Roll Marathon and 1/2 Marathon on January 17, 2010.  There are monthly team events scheduled this year that address a variety of topics.  Please see the linnks below for information on Registration, Team Events, and the Kick Off Party.  If you have already registered--you can transfer your registration at no cost by visiting the link listed below and and listing GFCMESA as the team name.   If you haven't already registered yet, see the attached Team Registration Instructions, and register by September 15th-before the price increase.  Those that register and use the GFCMESA code will save $10 on their registration fee.  (Sorry, transfers are not eligible for the $10 savings).   If you do register, please email me Kelly Kron , as the system this year does not send automatic updates. Kelly will be running the half marathon this year and would love to coordinate a couple group runs if anyone is interested.   Important Links   Transfer your registration: http://arizona.competitor.com/getfitchallenge/transfer/ Register for the race: http://arizona.competitor.com/register/getfitchallenge/ Team Registration Instructions Team SRP_KOP Flyer Team Events
